Day of the Brit

Before the ceremony

  • Firm sleeping pillow
  • Pack of baby wipes
  • 5 diapers
  • Tallit
  • Kosher sweet grape wine & kiddush cup
  • Large tub of Vaseline

After the ceremony

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap before changing any diaper
  • Apply a 7.5×7.5cm Gauze pad with plenty of Vaseline on the penis (precisely as I showed you) at every diaper change
  • Expect your son to be a little irritable the first day. You may give the baby 1.25 ml. of acetaminophen if he is uncomfortable to help alleviate the discomfort
  • Do not bathe the baby within the first 24 hours following the Brit. On the second day, a regular bath can be given but avoid putting pressure on the penis

Day after the Brit

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap before changing any diaper
  • For the next 15 diaper changes, apply a Gauze pad with Vaseline precisely as I demonstrate to you after Brit. After you are done with the 15 gauze pads, apply gently with your finger a little bit of Vaseline around the penis
  • Double diaper the baby for the first 2-3 days so that the baby doesn’t move his legs around thereby kicking his penile area
  • The redness will subside in a few days; a soft, light-colored healing scab-tissue may form for several days. This is perfectly normal
  • With the bandaging that I use, the healing process will accelerate to a much faster pace. I will be coming to visit the baby the day after the brit to inspect and make sure he is progressing as expected. Should you have any questions, call me any time of day or night
